Research areas

The Centre is devoted to advanced research and training in the fields of Mathematical Physics and Stochastics, as well as some closely related areas. The main motivations for the centre come from

• The need for extending the range of expertise among the Danish mathematicians so as to encompass some highly active and important areas that are presently only weakly represented in Denmark.
• The potential for fruitful interdisciplinary work among the researchers from the fields of Mathematical Physics and Stochastics.
• The desirability of strenghtening collaborative ties to mathematicians from abroad including Danish researchers presently working in other countries.
• The need for postdocs in the Danish mathematical community.

The main fields of activity of MaPhySto are Mathematical Physics (e. g. quantum mechanics, statistical mechanics, quantum field theory), Stochastics (e. g. stochastic analysis, interacting particle systems, stochastic matrices, free probatility), with some particular emphasis on the interplay between these two fields. Aspects of Stochastic Computation, Inverse Problems and Analytic Number Theory are also part of the ambit of the Centre.
